KUALA LUMPUR (July 14): Capital A Bhd (KL:CAPITALA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with national railway company Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to transform and integrate travel service and logistics within the country.

In a bourse filing on Monday, Capital A said the partnership with KTMB, wholly owned by Minister of Finance Inc, will also drive integration of loyalty programmes and food and services.

Capital A said the MOU has a duration of 12 months for the parties to execute definitive agreements, or for such further period as may be agreed in writing by the companies.

KTMB operates railway transportation and related services across Peninsular Malaysia and into Singapore under a licence issued by the Ministry of Transport.

Under the MOU, Capital A and KTMB will jointly conduct detailed feasibility studies to assess the commercial and operational viability of potential areas of cooperation.

The partnership seeks to establish a strategic ecosystem to modernise Malaysia’s travel and logistics landscape by leveraging KTMB’s rail network and Capital A’s portfolio, which includes Teleport (logistics), Santan (F&B), AirAsia MOVE, and AirAsia Rewards to enable seamless multimodal travel, cargo efficiency, and enhanced passenger experiences.

Other initiatives include potential bundled flight-train bookings, last-mile shuttle services to the Senai Airport, cargo network integration between Teleport and KTMB Kargo, and in-train catering with Santan.

Passengers will also benefit from a loyalty points exchange between Rail Points and AirAsia Rewards, with BigPay being considered as a preferred payment platform.

At Monday’s midday close, Capital A’s shares were down half a sen or 0.6% at 86.5 sen, giving the aviation company a market capitalisation of RM3.75 billion. The counter has fallen approximately 15% year-to-date.
